In today’s interconnected world, cultural narratives are becoming a powerful form of soft influence, shaping how societies understand each other beyond borders. With this perspective, a delegation from the Center for Science, Technology Policy and Diplomacy CSTPD visited Bongo, one of Bangladesh’s leading digital streaming platforms, to exchange ideas on the growing role of cultural diplomacy in the modern digital era.
The discussion explored how storytelling influences identity, perception, and global understanding. Rather than focusing on formal partnerships, the conversation centered on ideas around how digital platforms are reshaping cultural expression, how narratives travel across audiences, and how media contributes to building shared human connections.
A key part of the discussion highlighted cultural diplomacy as a bridge between people, where storytelling goes beyond entertainment and becomes a reflection of values, creativity, and social understanding. The role of youth creators, digital innovation, and authentic storytelling was emphasized as an important driver of future cultural influence.
The session featured Mushfiqur Rahman Manzu, Chief Content Officer of Bongo, a leading digital streaming platform in Bangladesh, who shared insights on content creation, audience engagement, and the evolving digital media landscape.
From CSTPD, Tanvir Kabir, Founding Advisor of CSTPD and career diplomat currently serving as Counsellor and Head of Chancery at the Embassy of Bangladesh in Berlin, Germany, reflected on cultural diplomacy as a long term soft power tool that strengthens understanding, trust, and people to people connections between societies.
This exchange of ideas highlighted the growing intersection between policy thinking and creative storytelling, showing how culture today moves across borders not through systems alone, but through narratives that are felt, shared, and remembered.
